Chronology of cameras Asahi Bussan
The Super Olympic DIII is an evolution of the Super Olympic D. The body, still made of Bakelite like most Asahi Bussan productions, now features a winding knob, whereas in the D model, the film was pushed into a receiving cartridge.
The maximum aperture of f/3.5 for the lens identifies this particular model as a DIII A, as the DIII model had a lens with a maximum aperture of f/4.5.
On the face of the shutter, labeled as Vario in some advertisements, you can see the inscriptions "Super Olympic MOD. DIII" and the AB logo. The metal ring indicates: SUPER OLYMPIC MOD. D III PICTURE SIZE 3.6 X 2.4 cm.
While it appears that the camera was marketed until around 1940, according to camera-wiki.org, all known examples bear the AB logo for Asahi Bussan. Asahi Bussan became Asahi Kogaku Kogyo after its acquisition in 1937 by Riken.
